If you’ve been scrolling through skincare Instagram or chatting with friends in Weston or Plantation, you’ve probably heard the buzz about RF Microneedling. It’s often called the "non-surgical facelift," and for good reason. But I know that when it comes to needles and "radiofrequency energy," things can sound a little intimidating.
I’m Ivy Lawson, the Medical Director here at BodyBrite Cooper City. My goal is to pull back the curtain on these advanced treatments so you can feel confident and excited about your skincare journey. Whether you’re looking to tighten up some sun-kissed skin from weekends in Davie or you want to tackle those fine lines that seem to have appeared overnight, this guide is for you.
To understand RF Microneedling, think of it as the high-tech big sister to traditional microneedling.
Standard microneedling uses tiny, sterilized needles to create "micro-injuries" in the skin. Your body, being the amazing machine it is, rushes to heal these tiny spots by producing fresh collagen and elastin. RF Microneedling takes that process and adds a layer of radiofrequency energy.
As the needles penetrate the skin, they release a burst of heat (the RF energy) deep into the dermis. This heat causes the underlying layers of your skin to contract and tighten immediately, while also triggering a much more intense healing response than needles alone. According to clinical studies on collagen induction therapy, this thermal energy is the key to significant skin tightening and remodeling.

One of the questions I get most often at our Cooper City clinic is, "Is this safe for my skin tone?" Many traditional laser treatments carry a risk of hyperpigmentation for those with deeper skin tones.
The beauty of RF Microneedling is that the energy is delivered below the surface of the skin. Because the heat bypasses the epidermis (the top layer where your pigment lives), the risk of pigment changes is significantly lower. This makes it a gold-standard treatment for our clients in Pembroke Pines and Sunrise who have melanin-rich skin and want to address scarring or aging without worry.
For those of us over 40, our natural collagen production has slowed down significantly. We start to notice "the sag", around the jawline, the neck, and under the eyes. RF Microneedling doesn't just "polish" the surface; it builds the structural foundation back up.
We want your visit to feel less like a "procedure" and more like a high-end self-care session. Here is exactly what happens when you come in for RF Microneedling.
Before we even touch a device, we sit down. We’ll look at your skin, talk about your history, and discuss your goals. Whether you’re coming from Southwest Ranches or just down the street in Cooper City, we want to make sure this is the absolute best fit for your skin’s needs.
We want you to be comfortable! After a gentle cleanse, we apply a high-quality topical numbing cream. You’ll hang out for about 30 to 45 minutes while it takes effect. This is the perfect time to catch up on emails or just close your eyes and relax in our spa-like environment.
Once you’re nice and numb, the magic happens. Your technician will glide the RF Microneedling handpiece over the treatment area. You might feel a light pressure or a warm "zap," but it shouldn't be painful. We can adjust the needle depth and the intensity of the RF energy based on the area, for example, we use a shallower setting for the delicate skin around the eyes and a deeper setting for the cheeks or jawline.

After the device work is done, your skin will feel warm, almost like a mild sunburn. We apply soothing serums, often enriched with growth factors or hyaluronic acid, to help jumpstart the recovery process. Because the channels in your skin are open, these products absorb much more deeply than they ever could at home.
You might be wondering if you should get a customized facial or perhaps a series of chemical peels instead.
While facials and peels are fantastic for surface glow and exfoliation, they don't provide the "lifting" effect that RF Microneedling does. If your primary concern is skin laxity (sagging) or deep structural wrinkles, the radiofrequency component is necessary to reach those deeper tissues.

The "downtime" is actually quite manageable. Here’s a quick timeline:
The real results, however, appear over the next 3 to 6 months. Collagen takes time to grow! Most of our clients in the Weston and Davie area see the best results after a series of 3 treatments, spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart.
If you resonate with any of the following, the answer is likely yes:

Does it hurt?
With our numbing cream, most clients rate the discomfort as a 2 or 3 out of 10. It’s a strange sensation, but very tolerable!
How many sessions do I need?
While you'll see a glow after one, we usually recommend a series of 3 to 4 sessions for significant tightening and scar reduction.
Can I go back to work the next day?
Absolutely. Most people are fine to return to work the following day with a little bit of tinted sunscreen or mineral makeup.
How long do the results last?
Because we are actually creating new collagen, the results are long-lasting. However, because we continue to age (sadly!), we recommend a "maintenance" session once or twice a year to keep that collagen production high.
